Many of us have had a dream some time in our lives. A dream which once makes us explores the possibilities as boundless as the sky. A dream which once allows us to experience the climax of being on top of the world. Have you ever had a dream? In the normality of life, where each heart beat is as predictable as the ticking of the alarm clock next to your bed, a dream is capable of making one's heart skips out of such quietness.

For some, to have a dream means an empty pursuit similar to that of chasing after the wind. Some may even fear to dream as the perceived environment to make a dream happen is far from being ideal. What does a dream mean to you? A quick check with Dictionary.com (a leading provider of language reference products and services on the Internet) reveals that "A dream is an aspiration; a goal; or an aim." This simply means that all of us have had dreams, and are having dreams everyday. From the moment we wake up until the end of the day, we make goals for the day, weeks, and years to come.

Dreams are indeed a part of us, whether we realize it or not. But too often, we see "unreachable and impossible tasks" as "ideal dreams" and readily associate our failures, disappointments or simply a death of a vision as "shattered dreams". What is left is only the mundane day-to-day life cycle, accompanied by feelings of boredom, exhaustion, and sadness. This is the major reason why our eyes are never set on the promising rewards a dream offers instead we focus on the challenges of realizing any dreams.

In the right perspective, "a dream", which represents an aspiration; a goal; or an aim, is indeed a collection of tasks we do daily, in the manner which we are either familiar with or are finding ways to make it better. The only difference between making a dream happen and carrying out a task is simply whether you are passionate about it. Denis Diderot, a philosopher, pointed out this striking contrast with his famous quotation, "Only passions, great passions, can elevate the soul to great things."

I have a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt on my bathroom mirror and I read it every day, "Do one thing every day that scares you." I be lieve we are often disueded from following our dreams and passions because of fear fo failure, ridicule or just plain doing something different. Good article and well made point.
