In 1988, The Writer's Guild went on strike for 22 weeks before reaching a negotiation with studios that quite honestly, left the writers with little rights concerning residuals. Through a chain reaction of events, directors went to bat with the studios and negotiated a contract leaving writers and actors with no legs to stand on in regards to residual rights. After nearly 20 years of paying for that mistake, writers have decided to take a stand and fight for a fair share of reimbursement. At the end of April, when SAG's contract is set to expire, the actors guild plans to follow in their footsteps.

Most people are starting to feel the results of the writer's strike because their late night shows and daytime talk shows have shifted into reruns. Most sit coms have ceased production because they rely on writers so much. A handful of dramas will cease filming at the end of this week and next because they were on their last script. Once pre-taped shows run out, the public will feel the impact much more. How can the public help put an end to the writer's strike, and ultimately help save thousands of people's jobs? They can show their support!

If you live in Los Angeles or New York, you have surely seen the picketers outside of studio lots. Reading online and hearing first hand from friends and family involved in the industry, I was filled with pride as a buddy of mine said he was sent home because Steve Carell refused to cross the picket line to report for work. On The Office, many of the series regulars are actually the writers. Another friend was sent home when a production runner who is also a writer reported to the picket line versus work, resulting in a cease of production.
