Henry David Thoreau, Writer Extra-ordin
Thoreau is One of My Favortie Authors
If you have never read any of Henry David Thoreau's work, you are missing a great author. He was a man of some wisdom and also great insight into the human spirit. I have loved him for years because perhaps, I too walk to the turn of a different drummer. Below I have listed a few of my favorite saying here. Then below that I have given you a poem I wrote about him, some time ago. I sincerely hope you learn to like him as much as I do. He lived what he wrote and thought. Not many people have the courage to dothat.
"Things do not CHANGE, we change."
"A man sits as many RISKS, as he runs!" (Boy is this ever true)
"KNOWLEDGE does not come to us by details, but in flashes of light from heaven."
"The VIRTUES of a superior man are like the wind; the virtues of a common man are like the grass; the grass when the wind passes over it, bends."
"Not until we have lost the world do we begin to FIND OURSELVES and realize where we are or the infinite extent of our relations."
As long as possible LIVE FREE. It makes but little difference whether you are committed to the farm or the county jail."
"If men would steadily observe REALITY only, and not allow themselves to be deluded, life to compare it with such things as we know, would be a fairy tale and Arabian Nights entertainment"
"Do not hire a man who does your WORK FOR MONEY, but hire one who does it for love of it
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions perhaps it is because he hears a DIFFERENT DRUMMER. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."
"I would not run around the corner to see the WORLD BLOW UP!"
"You may raise enough money to tunnel a mountain, but you can not raise enough money to hire a man is MINDING HIS OWN BUSINESS."
"The language of FRIENDSHIP is not words but meanings. It is an intelligence above language."
"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; for that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."
----------------------THOREAU---------------------
Henry David Thoreau was a solitary man,
of note and charm and thought.
He wrote about a lot of things
but few possessions, did he sought.
