Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Yuletide carols being sung by a choir....wait a minute. Hold the phone. I'm getting a few weeks ahead of myself in my holiday spirit direction. Although the current decorations at my local Wal-Mart don't convey it, Thanksgiving is the holiday celebration that should be on my mind. Turkeys, pilgrims and pumpkin pie. Tight waistbands, burping and football games. Family arguments, old grudges and uncomfortable silences. Ahhh...Thanksgiving in America. It's a beautiful thing! Please sit a spell with me and enjoy my list of things I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving.

First of all I'm thankful for the writer's strike in Hollywood. I absolutely love old black and white sitcoms and old time radio. I even enjoy stuff from the 70's! If I watch anything modern on TV, it's a BBC production. Have you ever watched The Kumars at No. 42? Or William and Mary? Or Black Books? Or Coupling? Or Father Ted? Or Red Dwarf? The old BBC stuff is just as good (if not better). I love Fawlty Towers and Are You Being Served? I say, let them strike for a long time. This will give the average American a chance to remove the drool from their chin, cancel their cable and get a Netflix subscription.

The next thing I'm thankful for is stain remover. I'm a homemaker with three children, an eleven year old, two under the age of four and one over the age of thirty-eight (wait, that's my husband, so he doesn't count). I know how to clean stains. Just this past week, I've cleaned purple popsicle, vanilla yogurt, mustard, applesauce, chocolate milk and string cheese (yes, string cheese!) out of my couch upholstery and carpet. You might want to call me The Queen of Stains (though that title sounds a bit dirty).

I think more people should step away from reality TV and start watching something intelligent for a change. Nice article. :)
