DIY Candy Cane Christmas Yard Decorations
Start saving up all those empty coke cans. The kids will love making these awesome candy cane yard decorations for Christmas!
To Make Candy Cane Yard Decorations fro Christmas You Will Need:
Rebar
Coke cans
Tin snips
Hot glue
White garbage bags
Ed plastic ribbons
Scissors
To get started you need to cut your rebar to about four feet tall. Of course, you can customize your candy cane yard decorations to any size you want.
Now, bend the rebar piece over at the top to make the candy cane shape. This can be accomplished with a metal clamp and a work table. Clamp the rebar to the table. Place the area that needs to be bent on the edge of the sturdy table. Press down with your weight to bend.
Now, on to the coke cans. You need to punch a hole in each end of the coke can. Simply punch a hole in the top and the bottom with a nail. Now, insert tin snips an cut away a circle that is as wide as your rebar.
Now, star slipping the coke cans on the rebar. This will add width to the candy can yard decorations.
You may need to use epoxy glue to glue the end coke cans in place. You will also want to leave about the bottom foot of the rebar free of any coke cans. This is how you will stab your candy cane yard decoration into the yard to stand them up.
Now, once all the coke cans are in place and you have a nice thick candy cane you are ready to start wrapping it. I like to cut strips of white garage bags fo this.
Star at the top of the candy cane and glue the end of the strip to the candy cane. Now, start wrapping the whole yard decoration until it is covered in whit plastic. This will take a few strips.
He more layers you add, the more you will hide the coke cans and any lines where they meet.
Tip: Dick tape in white is another options, but it may not last for years the way the garbage bags will on the candy cane yard decorations.
Now, fo the red stripe you have a couple options. I like to use that velvety outdoor red ribbon people like to use on Christmas garlands and wreaths.
