Thanksgiving Decorations: Free Thanksgiving Decor
Thanksgiving is approaching and there are many seasonal decorations available at your local crafts store. Instead of spending money on decorations for a holiday that many overlook, why not get some free Thanksgiving décor? Nature holds a multitude of items you can use to decorate your home this Thanksgiving. Here are some ideas you can use:
Use leaves to decorate for Thanksgiving: Go outside and pick up oak leaves as they change color and fall to the ground. They can be used in a multitude of ways. You can hot glue dried leaves to a disposable bowl to create a centerpiece for fruit or nuts. You can press the leaves between waxed paper and iron them to make them last longer. You can press leaves into aluminum foil and then cut the foil leaves out. Use your foil leaves to decorate your home. You can seal leaves between layers of contact paper to make placemats also.
Use pinecones to decorate for Thanksgiving: If you live in an area where hundred of pinecones (and other nuts) fall to the ground during autumn, you can compete with the squirrels for them. You can display them in bowls, as is, or spray paint them gold. Small pinecones can be displayed in glass bowls and large pinecones can be displayed on tables and mantles. (Be sure to dry them out in the oven before using to get rid of bugs.)
Use Ornamental Grasses to decorate for Thanksgiving: If you have ornamental grasses in your yard that needs to be cut back, use the clippings to decorate your home. Cut the tall grasses and display them in tall vases, or bundle them so they will stand up on their own. (Some ornamental grasses are sharp, so wear protective clothing and gloves when handling them).
Use fruit to decorate for Thanksgiving: Fruit is not exactly free, unless you have fruit trees. However, if you plan to eat it, then you are not paying to use it as decorations. Display bowls of fruit on tables around your home. To make the "décor" go further, crumple paper bags and put it in the bottom of the bowls.
