Local Folklore and Haunted Legends in the State of Nebraska

Do you believe in ghosts? Many residents of Nebraska have made reports of seeing, feeling, hearing and being touched by those beyond the grave.

Buffalo County, Kearney, Nebraska

In Conrad Hall, visitors and employees claim to see apparitions throughout the building; sitting at desks or sitting on beds in dorm rooms. Several students have said that they awoke during the night and were unable to move, scream or open their eyes. Many have gotten up in the mornings to find chairs moved across rooms and positioned in front of mirrors. In the restrooms, many have witnessed water faucets turning on and off by themselves.

Butler County, Bellwood, Nebraska

At the Bellwood Elementary School, many have claimed they witnessed a female apparition standing by a window in the library. Cold and hot spots have also been reported here, as well as, objects being moved during the night, moving shadowy figures in the hallways and unexplainable sounds.

Lincoln County, Maxwell, Nebraska

In a residential house on Plumber Street, home owners have claimed that they've witnessed empty rocking chairs moving back and forth as if someone were sitting in them. Lights in the house flicker frequently or turn themselves off, bare bulbs in the attic swing back and forth when no breeze is present and a female apparition was reportedly seen in the home.

Platte County, Columbus, Nebraska

At the Old Shockey-Penfield Home, locked doors are said to open and close on their own, lights dim or flicker unexplainably, unexplainable noises are heard in the night and shadows move along the walls.

Sarpy County, Bellevue, Nebraska

In the Bellevue East High School, students and faculty have claimed to see doors burst open and then close on their own. In the restrooms, many have claimed to see the faces of apparitions. Also, in the auditorium, some have reported seeing a human shaped form moving across the catwalk.
