Traditional anniversary gifts are rarely given these days. Following the guidelines of traditional anniversary gifts can be a creative way to give your anniversary gifts each year. Here are the traditional anniversary gifts for years 11-20 of marriage, and some ideas for gift options.

11th Anniversary: Steel. Steel is the traditional gift for an11th anniversary. Steel gifts can be decorative metal items, new flatware, new stainless steel appliances for the kitchen, or if you're spouse is a Steelers fan, you've got it made and can get Steelers' tickets or memorabilia. A trip to Pittsburgh is even a creative option!

12th Anniversary: Silk, Linen. Silk and linen are the traditional gifts for a 12th anniversary. Clothing is a first simple option for this year. You may also consider bed sheets, towels, lingerie, or clothing accessories.

13th Anniversary: Lace. Lace is the traditional gift for a 13th anniversary. Lacey lingerie may come to mind as a first option. Lace placemats or a pair of shoes with "laces" would work as well.

14th Anniversary: Ivory. The traditional gift for a 14th anniversary is ivory. Since ivory is taken from an endangered species, it certainly would not be a good idea to give the real thing. Instead, gift givers can go with a spin on the word and look for items that are just ivory in color which could be just about anything.

15th Anniversary: Crystal. Crystal is the traditional gift for a 15th anniversary. Think beyond the typical crystals bowls and goblets. Consider sculptured, personal creations than come in everything from golfers to hairdressers, panda bears, and bassinets.

16th Anniversary: Silver, Peridot. Silver and Peridot are the traditional gifts for a 16th anniversary. For the male spouse, jewelry is the obvious option. For the wife, she could consider silver cufflinks, a silver money clip, or even some CDs, which indeed are silver in color.

These are lovely suggestions. You're right though. Many people do not stick with traditional gifts. Sophie

I'm glad they've updated the ivory gift in light of elephants' endangered status.
