In last night's new Grey's Anatomy episode on ABC, there were a few frightening new developments. One of the most important was that Callie Torres, played by actress Sara Ramirez, was fired from her job as Chief Resident. That duty fell to Miranda Bailey, who had been filling in for Torres. Clearly Sara Ramirez's character Callie had never felt comfortable in a position that put her in charge of other people. However, her character is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. Is this incident going to end Sara Ramirez's relationship with Grey's Anatomy? Sara Ramirez has talked about her Broadway career, her Tony win for her role as the Lady in the Lake in the Monty Python show Spamalot, and her thoughts of someday returning to the stage. Is this the beginning of her exit from Grey's Anatomy to move on to greener pastures?

The next important development in this new episode, which relates directly to Callie Torres, is that George and Izzie seem to have no chemistry. This is despite the fact that they broke up George's marriage and left Callie hating Izzie in order to be together. All this whirlwind of love is now supposed to end up as some huge mistake? Was their love for one another merely a byproduct of drunkenness and forbidden fruit?

Meanwhile Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan, played by Eric Dane, is developing a "thing" for Dr. Erica Hahn, played by Brooke Smith. The creators of Grey's Anatomy seem to delight in the sheer impossibility of such an attraction. A completely shallow, self-centered and materialistic man like Sloan could never be attracted to a woman like Hahn simply because he witnessed her incredible skill in surgery. This new plot-line goes beyond the ridiculous and meanders into the realm of simple bad writing.

Meredith and Derek seem to be taking a back seat in this new episode of Grey's Anatomy. The only thing we really see from this episode is that despite the breakup, they're still together.

Takeaways
  • Torres has lost her job as Chief Resident on Grey's Anatomy.
  • George and Izzie apparently have no chemistry after thier home-wrecking episode.
  • McSteamy has gone off the deep end, forming an attraction to Dr. Eric Hahn.
