Tupac Shakur Lives Again: Another New Album, The Best of 2Pac, is on the Way

It has been over 11 years since rap superstar and actor Tupac Amaru Shakur died in Las Vegas on Friday, September 13th, 1996. Since his death, we have seen at least one Tupac posthumous release every year, many of them double discs, which has propelled

Tupac into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the highest selling rapper of all time. This year will be no exception as Amaru Entertainment (the record label owned by Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur) has announced that there will be two new Tupac albums scheduled for release by the end of this year.

According to its press release, "The Best of 2Pac - Part 1: Thug" and "The Best of 2Pac - Part 2: Life" currently has a release date of December 4th, and each album will feature one unreleased song, one new remix, and nine previously released songs in a "Greatest Hits"-style format. The album is Executive Produced by Afeni Shakur. This new collection will be the 14th and 15th posthumous album releases by 2Pac.

As of this writing, not counting the upcoming releases, there has already been two new 2Pac albums (Beginnings - The Lost Tapes and Nu-Mixx Klazzics Volume 2, respectively) released so far this year and another album released late last year (Pac's Life, released on November 21st, 2006). This seemingly infinite amount of posthumous material is contributed to what many people who knew him say was Tupac's unbelievable and unrelenting work ethic, which is evidenced in the release of two albums (1996's "All Eyez on Me" double disc and "The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory" released under his pseudonym "Makaveli"), the completion of over 200 songs that were unreleased at the time of his death as well as filming two movies and appearing on the soundtracks to those movies (1997's "Gridlock'd" and "Gang Related", respectively) all in 1996 before that fateful September day in Las Vegas over 11 years ago.

The "Best of 2Pac" albums will be released on Amaru Entertainment and some of the proceeds will go to benefit the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Performing Arts, located in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
