Pregnancy is one of the most exciting times in a woman's life. If you're pregnant, you probably want to share your joy with all your friends and family. One of the best ways to do this is with a baby shower.

Fortunately, planning a baby shower is lots of fun, too! Enjoy this special time in your life by arranging a lovely party to celebrate your pregnancy. Here are a few tips to get you started:

Pick a gender. Traditionally, baby showers were an all-female gathering. These days, however, many couples choose to have a Jack-and-Jill baby shower that includes the baby's father, as well as male friends and family. Decide which type of shower you'd like to have.

Create a guest list. Your guest list should include all the people who are special in your life, particularly those who have been supportive during your pregnancy and those who will soon share in the joy of your new baby. Immediate family, extended family, close friends, neighbors and co-workers are among the folks normally included on a baby shower guest list.

Choose a budget. A baby shower doesn't have to be expensive! You can celebrate your pregnancy with very little expense. You simply need some light refreshments and a few decorations for a basic party. Alternatively, you can spend hundreds on extras like party favors, prizes for games and a gigantic cake.

Choose a location. If you're trying to save some money, a friend's home or backyard is a great location for a baby shower. Some church basements and community halls can also be rented for a nominal fee. Those with a larger budget might consider renting an event room at a hotel or restaurant.

Pick a theme and decorations. The typical theme of a baby shower is babies! Fill the room with pink and blue baby decorations, such as flowers, balloons, plastic baby bottles and pastel ribbon. Many specialty party supply stores have pre-printed napkins, tablecloths and paper plates with a baby theme.

Great tips! I had a baby shower for my first child about 9 years ago and I unfortunatley didn't realize all the things that we could to make it more memorable. We didn't pick a theme or anything, we just had a bunch of women sitting around playing games. If I had known all the cool and creative things that women do now at showers, I definitely would have had a better one.
