Has slang become the new modern day English for the modern day or is it still just a form of expression? I am not even sure the great thinkers can answer that one quite yet, but slang is becoming more and more common everyday for the modern human. I am not sure we can go through a day without someone using it around us or even ourselves. I am beginning to think that is more of a challenge than normal these days. And with that though, most of my previous English teachers' heads all hurt at once. But with all of this, I move back on to the Slang word of the Week, a little late this time but I am still here with our slang for the rest of us. Joining in the idea of learning more about our slang and hopefully at least enjoy the story, comments and of course always to add something new for us to learn.

This week's slang word and story starts with: Beef.

I know, what's the beef with beef. (I had to sorry, too many puns so little time.) While I was going over my email early this week I came across an article about two popular rap artists with a "beef" with each other. I knew that they of course we not having a problem with each other's cows but they have a problem with each other. Beef in the slang term, not including a sexual content is having a problem with or complaint against someone else. This could be something simple, as I don't like what so and so said about me, so I have a beef with them. Or it can be more controversial like Michael Moore's beef with the President, as just on example.

Remarkably unlike most modern day slang, this slang word started well over a hundred years ago and has been used ever since. It has become more popular with recent rap artists in their music as well.

Hopefully this can help a bit with the word of the week for Beef. Next week will be something new and different. Please feel free to comment on what we would like to know about next.
