Smorg's Temecula-Fallbrook-Bonsall Loop Cycling Route

Warning:
This route is about 45 miles long with a lot of climbing (not for novice cyclists). The final section through De Luz is very long and isolated (17 miles in the middle of nowhere), so if you get to the junction of Pio Pico/De Luz Rd and Mission Rd with less than 2 hrs of sunlight left for the day, please take the alternate finishing section through Rainbow Valley and Temecula instead. Also, the De Luz section is vulnerable to flooding during the winter months (the road is cut by the creek at 4 or more places, and you can't always see through the water if there is a road for you to ride through or if it has been washed out).

You should have with you: a helmet,a cell-phone, 2 water bottles, energy bars, sunscreen, bandages, tyre repair kit, hand pump. Due to the amount of time you will spend in very sparsely populated area near the end of the route, it is a good idea to tell someone of the route and the time you are expected to return also.

Did You Know?
Southwest Riverside County and north San Diego County area boasts many great cycling routes for those who of us who love to imagine ourselves wearing the Tour de France's Polka Dot jersey...

Hiya JP, Frog, & Stephen! It's a pretty cool route to cycle around indeed (except for the really hot summer months). I'm afraid it's hard to avoid the hills here, tho. ;oP The good thing is that they don't keep going upward for miles and miles like in the Rockies or the Alps. Gotta love all the S curves on the downhills, tho. ;o)

This sounds like a great way to get a lot of exercise. I love the outdoors and nature.

I would love to do this someday. I have only been to San Diego once, and my stay there wasn't nearly long enough!

I love to ride my bike but, as a smoker, give me flat land to peddle, a McDonald's to stop at, and a lift home.

Hiya Rae, Stephen, & Sheri! It's usually a good ride ;o), though part of it went right thru the areas burnt by the last wild fires indeed. That area isn't very bad in term of smog yet, I think. No factory around like up in LA (though there are a few Indian casinos along the route!). ;o) Hope y'all have had a great Thanksgiving! Thanks for stopping by. :o)

Good short but sweet article! :) Sheri

Doesn't smog inhalation outweigh cardiovascular benefits of biking in Riverside County?

Sounds nice.

Hiya Eli, Steven, & Carol. Thanks for stopping by! Hope you guys are being more active than I am. The cooler winter is making me feel like hibernating. ;o)
