For adolescents and young adults, suicidal thoughts, ideation and successful suicide are a primary focus of mental health concern. While there are many definition and interpretations of suicidal attempt and suicidal ideation, most mental health professionals agree that suicidal tendencies are a leading cause for concern among this age group.

When suicidal attempt or suicidal ideation becomes a part of an individual's mental health state, often there are family members and friends who become involved in the complexities of this crisis. While family and friends work eagerly to try and resolve the mental health issues of the suicidal individual, they are often unsuccessful unless professional mental health services are provided.

For some suicidal individuals, however, there is a tendency to hide the ideation and thoughts and even hide the facts about failed attempts. In some cases, the mental health state is so significant the person who experiences these covert events often report not even remembering the attempt, thoughts or ideations. This, in theory, many actually help in your own personal recovery of your mental health complications.

Following years of therapy and medication management, many young adults and teens, who once suffered from suicidal thoughts, ideations or suicide attempts, may find they do not recall the events or emotions simply because so much time has passed. In many cases, the time lapse of three to four years is the period in which the feelings and emotions are quickly forgotten.
