My mom and I took a spur of the minute trip over the weekend to Arkansas to visit the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. After getting on the internet for a while and researching places to stay in that area, we decided the Southern Belle Inn in Nashville, Arkansas was the best deal for the money - plus it got the best ratings on the travel review sites.

Their website says "please call or fax between the hours of 6am and 12pm for reservations" so I called and talked to a nice gentleman to make our reservations. He was very friendly and answered all my questions.

The Southern Bell Inn has a total of 62 rooms - 1 Grand Suite with a King size bed and a Jacuzzi; 4 Suites with 1 King size bed; 28 Doubles with 2 Queen size beds; and 28 single rooms with 1 King size bed.

We reserved a non-smoking room with 2 double beds for $69.00 a night. That's a fair price in my opinion for a small non-chain establishment.

The official check-in time is after 1:00 pm but we arrived at 10:30 am and wanted to check in because we had been on the road a while and were tired. The girl at the reception desk said that since the room had not been slept in the night before that it was all clean and ready so we could go ahead and check in.

I also want to point out how friendly and helpful the girl was who checked us in. She gave us directions to where we were going and told us how to get to all of the eating places and shopping places in town. Granted the town is small and there weren't many places to eat or shop, but she took the time to tell us and I thought that was very nice.

The Good Things:

The lobby was clean and nicely decorated. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The room itself was small but it was clean and smelled fresh. Sometimes when you reserve a non-smoking room it smells of stale smoke, especially in an older hotel, but thankfully that was not the case in our room.

The carpet and drapes could have used a good cleaning and stain removal but were in pretty good shape overall.

Your right this is a small town, I know cuz I live here... We don't have a ritz hotel here because there is only about 2000 people who live here... But you could of drove another hour to texarkana and stayed a nicer hotel for 4 times the money.... But I have stayed in some of the nicest hotels there is and sometimes their beds suck... The people are not as nice there as they are here either.... Sound like to me your looking for a million dollar room on a dollar budget and then u complain about it.....

Excellent review! Somettimes you can find a nice smaller hotel, but I guess this wasn't one of them.

Nicely put together detailed review. I like fluffy soft towels myself, thin ones don't do it for me either.
