8 Important Pet Food Recalls for Winter 2007

When pet food manufacturers slip up, pet food recalls can quickly become a monthly-sometimes weekly-occurrence. This past year, the FDA has initiated a series of consumer protection alerts after discovering contaminated foods and ingredients in some of today's top pet food brands.

After a number of reports of deaths and sickness among thousands of cats and dogs in the Untied States, the contaminants were traced back to imported protein from China. Further investigation revealed that contaminated pet food was also being used as feed for animals and fish in some areas of the United States. Here's a summary of just a few of the major brands and products on the recall list for Winter 2007:

Dog Pet Food Recalls

Champion Breed Peanut Butter Biscuit from Sunshine Mills: all bags with a best before date of 03/23/08 are being recalled. These are a popular snack or treat for dogs of all sizes.

Nutra Nuggest Lamb Meal & Rice from Diamond Pet Food: all 40lb. bags with a best before date of 10/09/08 are being recalled.

Publix Brand pet food: Beef cuts w/ gravy, Chicken cuts w/ gravy, Country Stew Cuts, Sliced Beef, Sliced Chicken, and Lamb/Veg Cuts are jsuta few cans of dog food that may be tainted. Look out for best before dates with 12/10/09-03/07/10

Iams Can Chunky Formula: a whole series of flavors and combinations are on the recall list to include the Active Maturity with Beef, Chicken in Gravy, and Weight Control with Beef formulas amongst others. Look for codes ranging from 6312 to 7073.

Cat Pet Food Recalls

Nutro Max Cat Gourmet Classics: Cans of Alaskan Halibut, Savory Hunter Stew, and Orlean's Seafood Jambalaya are just a few of the products on the recall list that includes all best before dates.

Roundy's Flaked Fish/Shrimp: Cans dated for with 12/06/09--01/24/10 best before dates need to be sent back or discarded immediately

Master Choice: Sliced Beef/Gravy and Sliced Chicken/Gravy are on the recall list. Large cans with best before dates of 12/11/09-03/07/10 need to be turned in, along with small cans of the Sliced Beef/Gravy with best before dates of 12/06/09-01/24/10.
