Situated on the campus of Cuyamaca College near El Cajon, California, The Water Conservation Garden has a number of exhibits demonstrating creative ways of conserving water, according to the Rain Bird Corporation press release. One exhibit shows how a backyard with drought resistant plants can be beautiful and conserve water at the same time. (The Water Conservation Garden exhibit indicates that the drought resistant plants would use 6,000 gallons of water a year as opposed to 24,000 gallons of water a year for a lawn.) Another exhibit is called "Firewise Home," and demonstrates how to make one's home resistant to wild fires that are currently so problematic in California.

The Water Conservation Garden is also the site for training of professionals in Water Conservation in addition to its training of the general population with its public exhibits.

The 2007 Intelligent Use of Award (TM) Award carries with it ten thousand dollars in prize money, a place for the winner in the 2008 Rose Parade, and a spot as a featured panelist in the annual Intelligent Use of Water Summit to be held toward the end of the year in Pasadena, California, announced the Rain Bird Corporation press release.

The criteria for the 2007 Intelligent Use of Water Award included demonstrated savings of water, education of the public, creative implentation and preserving of landscapes, according to the Rain Bird Corporation press release. Dave Johnson, Rain Bird's Director of Corporate Marketing, stated: "As this year's winner, The Water Conservation Garden's innovation, leadership, ingenuity and overall commitment to improved landscape water efficiency makes it a valuable resource that has raised the standard for outdoor water conservation through education and leadership."
