I crave the end of war,
hoping to one day
open my eyes
to see that we no longer need
that desire to fight,
the thirst to control,
and the hunger
to kill a hole
carved inside us,
but it is fear
that determines
our choice
to live our lives
the way that we do.
We are afraid,
afraid always of what we don't understand,
afraid of those that stand out,
and fearing the lack of control
that we really have over the days
of our lives.
We are afraid.
If we stopped fighting,
could we accept
a world of peace,
a world united?
Is such a world
more than a dream?
Why must war
pave the road
to freedom,
to peace?
Why must we fight and die?
Are our lives only threads of history
to weave everything that we desire
into a future
that we continue to dream?
You asked me
why I don't believe in peace.
The answer is simple.
We'll always have war,
and there are times,
where war creates peace.
