In addition to being President, Roosevelt led a colorful life that included cowpuncher, businessman, prolific author and father. During the Spanish American War, he helped to command the "Rough Riders" Cavalry Regiment and returned home a war hero. As President, he helped build the Panama Canal.
Though Theodore Roosevelt had many ups and downs, one thing becomes clear in a study of his writings and speeches--his unabridged optimism.
