To Make This Christmas Yard Sign That Lights Up You will need:
Plastic Christmas ornaments
Christmas lights
Wire mesh
Tin Snips
Floral wire
The first step is to lay out your sheets of wire mesh. This can be bought at the local home improvement store by the way. You want to draw bubble letters to spell out "Merry Christmas" on the mesh.
Cut each of the letters out. Now, lay them out in a row. Use cut pieces of wire to join them all together in the top left and top right corners.
New, start cutting a ton of three inch pieces of floral wire. Staring on the first letter you want to take one of your plastic ball ornaments and use the small piece of wire to slip through the ornament hook hole on the ornament, then twist to attach it to the wire mesh.
Continue until each letter is covered.
Tip: Try using one color of ornament to outline each letter. Like gold or silver. Fill in the insides of the letter with red or green ornaments. You could even alternate red on one letter of the Christmas yard sign and green on the next!
Tip: If you are making a small version of this Christmas yard sign for the house, then try using pine cones in place of the ornaments. Hang the sign on the fireplace mantel to add an elegant touch!
Now, once all the letters have been filled you need to gently flip the Merry Christmas sign over face down. This is where you will be glad you did not use glass ornaments, which could easily break.
Now, lint the outside of the letters with strings of Christmas lights. Those little pieces of wire are perfect for attaching the lights to the wire mesh Merry Christmas sign!
To hang you want to cut about three piece of 20 gauge wire that are about ten inches long. Attach one on each end and one in the middle, making three loops.
Now, use nails in the front porch as hooks to hang each loop on!
