This family tree wall hanging is a fun family craft project that will teach the kids about their genealogy with a craft. Genealogy crafts are fun for the whole family. I love family crafts that let the kids know who their family was before they arrived!

To Make this Family Tree Wall Hanging Craft Project You Will Need:

Burlap

Silk Leaves

Paint pens

Fabric glue

Wood dowel

Fabric paint

Sewing machine

Go ahead and cut out your piece of burlap to about 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. You can make your family tree craft as large or as small as you want.

Just add a few inches on to the height for hanging purposes.

Now, you want to use a scrap piece of paper cut out to the same size to practice drawing the body of your tree. This should fill up the main portion of the burlap fabric.

Once you have your tree shape and pattern drawn, cu tit out with scissors. Tip: You are drawing the trunk and branches only. The leaves come later.

Now, if you have access to a sewing machine try sewing the three sides of the burlap, the 2 sides and the bottom.

Once sewn, around the edges, about an inch in, you can pull the burlap fabric and fray it up to the sewn line. This is option of course.

Now, lay the tree trunk and branches in the middle of the fabric. Line the bottom of the trunk up with the bottom of the fabric. Use a pencil to trace your family tree onto the fabric.

Now, use brown fabric paint to paint in the trunks. If you have puff paint, then use brown puff paint to trace the tree and add some lines in the trunk and branches for dimension.

Let all of this dry. Now, onto the genealogy part of your family tree craft.

Take each of your silk leaves and pull them off of their plastic branches. You want to use an extra fine tip paint pin to write the names, birthdays, and ending dates of each of yoru family members included on the family tree craft.

Try to use lovely green leaves and a metallic paint pen for a pulled together look.

Once all the paint has dried you can use fabric glue to start gluing the leaves and names onto the family tree.

To hang your family tree craft, simply fold the top three inches over. Sew this down to create a tunnel or pocket with two open ends.
