Cleaning storm windows in your home is very important and is a task that should not be overlooked. Many people think that you only need to clean storm windows during the fall season. However, you can clean them anytime of year. It is completely up to you what you think will work best for you.

The first part of the process for cleaning storm windows is to clean the outside first. Using a long handled broom, sweep the outside of the windows. This will remove large debris, webs, leaves and anything else that has collected on the window. Do not spray your storm windows without first sweeping because the water will make a muddy build up on the windows.

Next, wrap the end of the broom with a thick terry cloth towel. I prefer to use a white towel because I can easily bleach it when the project is done. You might need several towels if you have a lot of storm windows.

You can purchase a watering hose attachment that is specifically for dispensing soap at a local hardware store in your area. Fill the dispenser with detergent that is meant for cleaning home windows with no bleach in it. Lightly spray the storm windows with the dispenser completely closed. You want the first spray to be clean water without soap.

After you have rinsed the windows thoroughly, spray the storm windows with the soap. If you don't want to buy window soap you can use a mild dish detergent that does not have bleach in it. Spray in a downward motion so that you do not damage the storm windows or the siding on your home. If you spray upwards, you can damage the siding by making it come loose on your home.

The final step is to go inside your home. Clean the window sills and window frame with a damp cloth of lemon juice and distilled vinegar. After you have cleaned the sills and frame you can clean the actual glass of the window frame. Dry the windows with a newspaper or a lint free paper towel.
