Imagine yourself, driving along a rural highway late at night. There are no street lights, so it is very dark. All of a sudden, around the curve ahead of you is a car. It is coming toward you. The lights from the four lights on the front of the car are blinding you. It is difficult to see the road, and you feel your right tires leaving the pavement. Just a little, but it was just enough for your wheels to drop to the edge of the road, off of the pavement to the gravel below. You can feel yourself loosing control of your vehicle, but you are not able to bring the car back under your control. The after noon's earlier rain has left the road very slippery. The last thing you see is four lights coming toward you, blinding you... The last thing you remember is the sound of your car hitting something...

This is an imaginary scenario, but one that can and may have already happened to someone. Why do so many people drive with their fog lights on? All new cars come with the fog lights programmed on. This does not mean that you can not reprogram your lights so that the fog lights are not on all the time. I know this for a fact. I have a new car. A really cool car. It has fog lights, but guess what?

I do not leave them turned on all the time. I only turn them on when I need them. However, if you do have a new car and you still have the fog lights on all of the time you can fix that. You can find the directions for turning them off easily. They are located in the handbook. You can find this in the glove compartment of your dash! Please... as a courtesy.... turn them off. Driving towards a car with both headlights and fog lights on is just like driving towards a car with bright lights on... Please, for the safety of yourself and others, turn them off.... Looking cool at the risk of someone's safety, isn't cool. This is a menace to other drivers. Go to the program on your dash. Look it up in the manual if you don't know where it is. Turn them to manual, and only use these lights when it is foggy! They are not cool lights. They are fog lights! Seriously, it is a hazardous to drive with these lights on. Please... turn them off

I agree with you on this, Beth. People seem to love to drive with their fog lights on around here when they are not needed. But when we had some dense fog lately, I saw some people with no lights on at all!! Sophie
