LA Theatre Works at Skirball Cultural Center (2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd) in Los Angeles has just announced their west coast premiere of "Stick Fly" a new to this time zone play written by the provocative playwright Lydia R. Diamond and directed by Shirley Jo Finney. One of the really exciting things about this new work is one of the stars of this show; Justine Bateman. You may remember Ms. Bateman as Malloy P. Keaton from the very well known program of the 1980's "Family Ties." Well she's back for five performances only (11/14-11/18) at LA Theatre works and people couldn't be more abuzz about it.

"Stick Fly" deals with very familiar issues in this country; race, class, and the social order of things. Two young, well-to-do African American boys spend the weekend at their family home on Martha's Vineyard to visit their upper class parents; but when they bring along their girlfriends, they happen upon a "domestic powder keg" which takes them completely unawares; exposing the hypocrisy, the prejudice, and a whole host of other issues which are brought to the fore by this dynamic story and the excellent cast which also includes Dule Hill, Carl Lumbly, Michole Briana White, and Terrell Tilford.

LA Theatre Works is also offering an excellent bonus to customers who make their reservations right away for this exciting new play; 2-for-1 ticket offers! If you are reserving for the dates mentioned above and you make your reservation at the Plays411 website, and you mention the promotion code "008" when making your reservation you will receive two for one admission.

The LA Theatre Works four days appear to be the only current proposed production of "Stick Fly" on this coast, but who knows? Race is always a topical issue, Ms. Diamond is a very evocative playwright, and everyone remembers Ms. Bateman, so the Hollywood audiences could help to resurrect her career by coming out and supporting this show in droves.
