Where Are Our Fantastic Technology Products?
It's Not like We Want Flying Cars!

I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for a number of technology products and I just can't wait anymore. There are some obvious product choices that need to be available on the market.First, I'm waiting for a laptop computer that retails for less than $100. It doesn't have to be a fast machine. It doesn't have to offer full-scale surround sound multimedia capabilities. It doesn't have to offer great graphics. It can have an LCD screen. All I want is a full-sized keyboard, a half-sized screen, a full-fledged word processor, a calendar, a calculator, earphones and some music capabilities. It has to have the ability to handle smart cards and the ability to connect to any desktop computer through a wireless, infrared, or USB connection. It should use flash memory instead of a hard-drive and run on normal AA batteries or rechargeable batteries and have a very long battery life. If it could surf the net like many cell phones that would be a tremendous bonus. Many products have come tantalizing close to my ideal. Remember PDAs? They could do an awful lot. But, they were awkward to use with a folding keyboard. Remember the downsized laptop that was the size of a rolled up newspaper? It hit my size target, but was far too expensive. We've seen what cell phones, MP3 players, e-book readers, and PDAs can do. A charity organization, One Laptop Per Child, is about to make educational laptops available for $200 throughout the developing world. The technology is obviously available. So where is my $100 laptop?
