In a previous article, titled How to End a Friendship, we discussed some of the things that you should take into consideration when ending a friendship. One of the main things that you may be wondering is when it may be time to end a friendship. Here, we will take a closer look at some of the signs that it may be time to either end a friendship, or at least take a break from your friendship in order to reevaluate exactly what it is going on.

Sign That You Should End Your Friendship #1: You're Sick of Being Around Your Friend

There is no doubt that too much togetherness can be too much of a good thing. For example, if you have recently taken a vacation with a friend that you do not normally spend very much time with, it is likely that you both may have gotten sick of each other after awhile. This is perfectly normal. However, if you rarely see your friend but dread every minute that you have to, this is a sign that you should consider ending your friendship. If you complain about being around your friend, whether it is out loud or in your head, it may be time to reevaluate your friendship. We are supposed to have fun when we spend time with friends - not feel as though we are suffering through every minute that we need to spend with them.

Excellent job on this topic! I have a friend that is very competitive. We used to be very close but the constant competition drove me nuts. Every time we were together I felt so stressed I'd end up with a headache from the encounter. After a while I just had to break from the friendship and put some distance between us. Although I missed our close friendship I felt much more relaxed not having to deal with the competition. We're still friends but we get together less often than in the past.

Those are definitely red flags that ought to be heeded. It's always a painful thing to have to do, but sometimes one has no choice. Excellent article.

Excellent points! I think it's interesting that many people are willing to end a romantic relationship for these reasons, but a purely platonic friendship can drag on, even when it would be more healthy to limit or end it.

Hmm interesting. I don't like the idea of ending a friendship. Maybe taking a break with the reassurance that you will always be friends. Ending though/ I don't think so.
