For many college students and college professors, there is a need to find ways to alleviate stress. With abnormal work and study schedules, the staff and students on college campuses often find they are pushed to their limits, physically and emotionally. In an effort to promote and improve the well being of both students and staff, many colleges are now offering alternative healing options to both. For some, the use of alternative healing allows for a clearer mind-body connection without the use of prescription medications to alleviate stress and anxiety.
As part of the college outreach programs, meditation classes may be referred to as "relaxation training" or "beginning meditation". In some college classrooms there is even a growing push to incorporate meditation, especially in the environments that are highly stressful. For students preparing to take important exams, the outreach center may even provide meditation that is specific to reducing test taking anxiety.
If you are attending a college where meditation and relaxation services are not offered by the outreach center, it is important to inquire of such services. Often, even before students are offered services, the college staff and professors are usually engaged in some type of college supported program. Inquiring of these services may serve to promote the college's momentum in placing the support programs into place.
Meditation, for many college students and college staff, promotes a sense of well being. Once your college implements the program, you should not expect to see results from the very first session. Often, as with meditation in any other environment, the realm of becoming aware of your internal state, and engaged in your feelings without regard to your surroundings, is a state of meditation that must be developed. Still, it is important to consider the program and attend regularly if you find that your presence in college is creating some distress in your life.
