Do you wake up in the morning with severe jaw pain, headaches, or feel like someone hit you in your jaw? Then you might be suffering from the syndrome called TMJ. This syndrome affects millions of people every day, and has no real cures to this problem except surgery. Some of the things that people
with TMJ do are, grinding your teeth at night while sleeping, eating foods like bagels, or chewing gum can make this problem worse. Sometimes a dentist can help this condition but it can turn into a very expensive solution.

A few home remedies that you can do to help this condition would be;

1. You can apply heat to your jaw for twenty minutes or so, then apply a cold compress to your jaw for twenty minutes or so.This process helps to alleviate pain and inflammation on your jaw.

2. A dentist may recommend you wearing a night guard for sleeping to prevent you from grinding your teeth while sleeping.This item can be purchased at any local pharmacy or at a sporting good store.

3. You can also ask your primary care physician to give you ear drops containing a pain reliever that also helps sometimes for TMJ sufferers.

4. Another great remedy to try believe it or not which actually works is, Vick's vapor rub. You can take a cotton swab then place it into the ointment, then make sure you place the vapor rub directly in frount of your earlobe, this works by relieving the inflammation and helps residing the pain that you feel in your jaw or ear.

5. You will be surprised if you take a look into your medicine cabinet. You can see if you have any preparation H, this also is another great remedy that works by doing the same function as the Vick's vapor rub, but the only difference is one is a menthol smell and the other one isn't.

6. You can also try and do exercises on your jaw by opening your mouth and closing it, this will help you stretch the muscles almost like laughing or smiling, but make sure you don't put too much pressure on your mouth, or you will have double the pain. I recommend doing circular motions massaging with your fingertips, sometimes the pressure can relieve some of that pain.

Great advice and I use all of these remedies! None of them seem to work for very long. The best thing I've found is massage but can't afford that very often.
