Last night I attended a conference call with people who work for Senator Chris Dodd's campaign in the downstairs of an apartment complex in my hometown. Before the conference officially started there was some discussion about a recent statewide poll which showed Senator Dodd firmly in fourth place in the state of South Carolina for the Democratic nomination.

The conference call was mainly about labor and how Senator Dodd is the best candidate to receive the support of union members from around the country. Senator Dodd was in a room in Davenport meeting with people involved in the labor movement including IAFF President Harold Schaitberger, who along with so many other fire fighters around the country endorsed Chris Dodd very early due to his long time support of the rights of the working class.

Harold said when the International Association of Fire Fighters made their endorsement they ignored what the media and Washington D.C. insiders were doing by basically calling the race a done deal implying that Hillary Clinton was going to be coronated as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee. Later on Harold urged people to educate themselves and others on the caucus process in order to select who he felt was the correct nominee. Harold went on to say it will take each person bringing at least five of their friends and neighbors in order to sneak in under the radar just like John Kerry who the IAFF endorsed for the Democratic nomination early in the process.

Senator Dodd's speech was brief, yet commanding. He spoke about his record as someone who has fought for the rights of children by starting the Children's caucus in the 1980's. How he of course passed the Family and Leave Act which granted someone the ability to take a paid leave and guarantee that their job would also be there if they had to take time off in order to take for a sick loved one.
