You don't have to spend a lot of money for ski lodging when you ski the ski areas around Lake Tahoe. There are several hotels in South Tahoe, California that cost less than $100 a night. Some have shuttles to the ski areas and some are located by a Gondola to Heavenly Ski Resort. The ski areas of Kirkwood and Sierra-at-Tahoe are close by to add skiing variety to your trip. The close by Casinos add additional entertainment to your trip,

Beverly Lodge, in South Lake Tahoe, California has rooms as low as $70 for a room with one queen size bed, and $80 for a room with two queen size rooms as quoted by Inntopia for a weekend January stay. For a weekday stay the price drops to $35 and $45 respectfully and advertise rooms as low as $30 a night.
All rooms come with mini refrigerators and microwaves so if you really want to be thrifty on your ski trip you could eat in your room. There are also several restaurants in walking distance from the common Subway's, IHOP, Baja Fresh, McDonald's to the more exotic tastes of Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine and The Naked Fish Sushi Restaurant. They also have free high speed internet connections and cable TV featuring HBO.

The Camp Richardson Resort has rooms ranging from $55-75 at the Historic Hotel and $75 at the Beachside Inn for a winter weekend night. At the resort you can enjoy cross country skiing or snowshoeing. They also have the Beacon Bar and Grill on site and a hot tub.

The Black Jack Inn has rooms for $70 for a queen bed, $80 for two double beds. Microwaves and Refrigerators are available per request. They are located right at the Heavenly Gondola and a mere block from the Casinos. Cable with HBO is standard in the rooms.

2buzy is right! I lived in the Reno and Carson City areas for a long time, and know that budget anything at S. Lake Tahoe is a good thing! Big ouch! up there in the wallet area.
