Have you ever wanted a simple painting program for your Mac? If you've used Windows before (and who hasn't?), then you may have run into the simple program, called "Paint," that ships with Windows. Unfortunately for Mac users, there isn't an equivalent program bundled with OS X, but I recently ran across a free program - called Paintbrush - that should meet most of your pixel pushing needs.Paintbrush is not to be confused with Adobe Photoshop, not even close. While Photoshop is a complete photo manipulation program, complete with dozens and dozens of filters and tools, uses layers for easy editing, and supports an incredibly wide variety of formats, Paintbrush is a simple program, quite suitable for children. Paintbrush has only been around for a couple months (the 1.0 release I used was from August of 2007), and as such has a limited toolbox.
Paintbrush is able to take advantage of the following tools:
Pencil - The Pencil tool is the most basic painting tool there is. It simply mimics the act of moving a pencil over the canvas. The pencil tool can be tweaked a bit, so the width and color the line can be suited to your tastes, but it is simply a pencil. At the moment there is no paintbrush tool (odd for a program called Paintbrush, I know), so for those of you looking to "paint" with a myriad of different shapes and brush types... you're currently out of luck.
Eraser - An obvious tool, for those times when you don't get it right the first time!
Selection - If you want to manipulate a large area of the image you're working on (to fill with a particular color, for instance), the Selection tool is what you'll use.
Bomb - In all honesty, I'm not quite sure what this tool does. When you click the Bomb tool icon, then click on your image, a circle appears. This circle is the same color as your selected background color. This circle then quickly increases in size until it fills your entire image. My only guess is that the Bomb tool is designed to completely wipe your entire image, for those times when you want to start over completely.
