Traditional anniversary gifts are rarely given these days. Following the guidelines of traditional anniversary gifts can be a creative way to give your anniversary gifts each year. The 40th anniversary is the only one on this list that has a true traditional gift, while the other years are what is considered a traditional, "modern" anniversary gift. Many of the gifts in this span of anniversary years have been used for previous years as well.

31st Anniversary: Time Pieces. Time pieces are the traditional gifts for a 31st anniversary. While clocks and watches may come to mind first, anything that tells time would work well as a gift for this year. Radios, MP3 players, cell phones, etc can also be considered.

32nd Anniversary: Automobiles. Automobiles are the traditional gift for a 32nd anniversary. No, not many people are going to be able to afford a new car for an anniversary gift. In lieu of an actual new car, try giving car accessories such as a new stereo system, car washes for a year, seat covers, or an inside car cleaning.

33rd Anniversary: Amethyst. Amethyst is the traditional gift for a 33rd anniversary. While jewelry is a typical gift, using the amethyst color, a bright purple, can allow you to choose from a variety of gift options.

34th Anniversary: Opal. Opal is the traditional gift for a 34th anniversary. Jewelry again is the obvious option for this anniversary. Using the "opalescent" color opens up a whole new realm of gift possibilities.

35th Anniversary: Coral and Jade. Coral and jade are the traditional gifts for a 35th anniversary. Again jewelry is always an option. A vacation somewhere exotic such as an Asian country (where jade is prevalent) or somewhere tropical with plenty of coral would be a perfect gift to commemorate this special anniversary.

36th Anniversary: China. China is the traditional gift for a 36th anniversary. Instead of just choosing china housewares, think outside the box and choose anything having to do with the country China such as a dinner at a fancy Chinese restaurant, or a trip to New York City to visit "Chinatown."

Well, I'll have to get on my husband. I didn't get tourmaline for our anniversary. Just kidding. I got blue topaz from a well-known designer so I can't complain.
