On November 20th, the City of Fort Collins Colorado City Council will consider a proposal by their "Holiday Display Task Force". According to the City of Fort Collins website, the task force which consists of fifteen members appointed by the city manager has been given the task of "reviewing the city's existing holiday display policy and making recommendations regarding the display of religious symbols on public property." The task force was assembled after receiving and denying requests from a local rabbit to include a menorah in the city's official holiday display.

No more twinkling colored lights will adorn the downtown Fort Collins area as the use of colors has been deemed to be too easily associated with Christmas. White lights will be the only color allowed for the lights that adorn the trees lining the old town area and the main street running through the city, College Avenue. The city's museum will be used as a main focal point to display various religious holiday displays including Christmas Trees, Menorahs, and winter holiday symbols. City buildings will not be allowed to hang their large green wreaths with red ribbons as they have done for so many years in the past. Snowflakes, snowmen, icicles, and penguins are being suggested as alternatives for decorating for the "winter celebration" instead of ornaments, wreaths, and Christmas trees.

This is too bad. The first I heard of this was on Bill O'Reilly's "The Factor."
