Making homemade Christmas ornaments with kids doesn't mean that the ornaments have to look cheap or hideous. It doesn't even take artistic skill to make a lot of homemade Christmas ornaments. I have very little artistic ability. Yet making Christmas ornaments is a holiday tradition in our house. And the handmade Christmas ornaments turn out looking impressive each year, if I do say so myself.

Just a few, simple supplies are all that you need to make homemade Christmas ornaments. Cheap hobby paint in small tubes or jars, cheap small paintbrushes, felt, glitter, pompoms, rick rack, pipe cleaners, Christmas fabrics, needle and thread or fabric glue, colored paper are some items you can use for making Christmas ornaments. That's all you need to make a tree full of homemade Christmas ornaments.

How to Make Felt Christmas Ornaments

You don't even need to know how to sew when making Christmas ornaments from felt. If you can't or don't want to sew, just use fabric glue to attach the pieces. Felt homemade Christmas ornaments can be as fancy or simple as you're able or want to make them.

When the kids were small, we cut simple triangles to make homemade ornaments that looked like Christmas trees. We glued glitter, sequins, rick rack, buttons, and pom poms to our Christmas tree ornaments. Candy canes, snowmen, and wreaths are also easy shapes to cut from felt. Then, just decorate them the same way as the Christmas trees or paint designs on them. To hang the ornaments from the Christmas tree, use a needle to make a thread or string loop for hanging.

I made our ornaments for years and still hang the ones we made together. That is half the fun of Christmas in my humble opinion. Great article
