So you were sitting on the couch one day and decided to watch the running of the New York marathon. Thousands of people showed up, expert runners as well as rookies. As you watched you couldn't help but say to yourself, "That would be awesome to run a marathon!" Then, reality set in and it dawned on you that you haven't walked much less run in years. Well, before you get the urge to run in a marathon, take things a bit slower. Try starting out training for a 5K, and work your way up from there. Running requires a great amount of muscle endurance as well as mental endurance. Along the way, don't be surprised if you experience minor muscle soreness as well as the dreaded shin splints. Not to worry though, I have successfully treated hundreds of patients with shin splints and I will get you thru it.
