The Hollywood Foreign Press Association named Rumer Willis as Miss Golden Globe to assist in the hosting of the Golden Globe Awards, set to broadcast on NBC on January 13, 2008.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was started by a group of Los Angeles journalists who were overseas during World War II. Americans sought film to distract themselves from the war. Initially, meetings were held in homes, but as the membership in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association grew, the Association met in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

In 1944, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had its first awards ceremony, honoring the finest actors, actresses, and producers in the film industry. During the ceremony, scrolls were given to the award recipients. In 1945, Marina Cistemas thought of the idea of giving award recipients golden globe statues, which has remained the trademark statue for the Golden Globe Awards ever since.

It is tradition for Miss Golden Globe to be the daughter of a celebrity who is well-known. Rumer Willis is the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Bruce Willis has received four Golden Globe nominations and one Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series for, "Moonlighting." Demi Moore has received two Golden Globe nominations.

Rumer Willis was born in 1988 in Kentucky, where her father was working on the movie, In Country. Rumer Willis participated in her first film, Now and Then, when she was five years old, along with her mother. Since then, she has starred in many other films including: Striptease, The Whole Nine Yards, Hostage, From Within, and, I Know What Boys Like. From Within and I Know What Boys Like are set for release in 2008.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's President Jorge Camara said in a press release by the organization, "We are delighted to have Rumer Willis join us to celebrate, 'The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards.' Since both of her parents have enjoyed successful entertainment careers in the acting profession, she is doubly qualified to serve as Miss Golden Globe."

At least she's trying to make a name for herself. I'm sure she's probably tired of being best known as Demi and Bruce's daugter. Great article!
