Last week I scored the greatest Christmas shopping bargain of the season thus far. No, it wasn't at at a one day sale at the mall or a department store. It was at my local thrift store. Quite by accident, I stumbled upon a pink and white Mongoose bicycle for my oldest daughter. I had priced these previously and was dismayed to learn that I would have to spend more than one hundred and fifty dollars for a brand new one with tags at the store. Well, there must have been an angel on my shoulder the day I decided to go to the local thrift store because there was one just dropped off, almost brand new with a price tag of only fifteen dollars on it. I almost danced out of the store with joy. My husband typically works on Christmas so we always present the girls with one special gift each from Mommy and Daddy on Christmas Eve so that he doesn't miss out on all the Christmas magic with our daughters. We were hoping to get our oldest a brand new bicycle this year, but with money being tight we had to come up with an alternate plan. I immediately went back to Plan A once I spotted this wonderful bargain after a little cleaning and elbow grease, the bike looks brand new and will have a shiny red bow on it come Christmas Eve.

There are many bargains to be found at the thrift store. Many people frequently shop there for discounted prices on new or nearly new clothing, books and miscellaneous household items. How many have actually thought to purchase Christmas gift there? With a strong desire to make Christmas a special holiday for everyone I love, but without a desire to get any further in debt, I am now shopping at the thrift store with completely new eyes. Here are some wonderful ideas for Christmas gifts that you can purchase at the thrift store.

Vintage Clothing. Is there someone on your Christmas gift list that adores vintage clothing? Your local thrift store is an excellent place to find clothing styles from years past. Be sure to check the item thoroughly for rips or stains and then clean appropriately after purchasing.

Great article! I have also seen new items with tags still on them at thrift stores. I used to go there to hunt down unique furniture, but quickly realized that much of the other items were still worth using. I have even found textbooks for 50 cents, which any teacher (home school or otherwise) will know is a beyond excellent deal. Textbooks are usually $30 or more. Since we home school and plan on doing it all the way through high school, every time I see a textbook, I get it, no matter the grade level or subject. If the level is too easy for the elementary kids, we save it for when the preschoolers will be of age to use it. If the level is too hard, we save it for later use. If we already have something for a certain level, we still get it because I like to customize assignments from the best of all materials at hand, rather than use only one source. I alo write some of their assignments, checking facts and combining the best of each reference.

I've found great bargains at thrift stores, too! They "set" prices on clothes and accessories regardless of brand, so you can get top names at bottom dollar! Why pay more? :)

Resourceful ideas which also benefit the planet by recycling goods instead of creating new ones. Bravo!
