Jake Peavy won the National League Cy Young by a unanimous vote. Before Jake Peavy each league had eight unanimous Cy Young winners since the MLB started giving the award to both leagues. These are the eight pitchers that won the Cy Young by a unanimous vote in the American League.

Johan Santana (2006)
If general managers had to choose one pitcher for their team it would probably unanimously be Johan Santana so it's no surprise that Johan Santana won the Cy Young by a unanimous vote. In 2006 Johan Santana had the same record as Cy Young runner up Chien-Ming Wang but Johan Santana had an ERA that was a run lower and had 175 more strikeouts.

Johan Santana (2004)
So far both of Johan Santana's Cy Young wins were by a unanimous vote. In his 2004 Cy Young season Johan Santana had a 20 - 6 record with a 2.61 ERA and 265 strikeouts. Curt Schilling led the league in wins and finished second in the Cy Young voting and Mariano Rivera rounded out the top three with his 53 saves.

Pedro Martinez (2000)
In 2000 three pitchers had more wins than Pedro Martinez but all three, Tim Hudson, David Wells, and Andy Pettitte, had an ERA over four while Pedro's ERA was just 1.74. Pedro Martinez also struck out 100 more batters than all three.

Pedro Martinez (1999)
Unlike 2000, Pedro Martinez did lead the American League in wins in 1999. Pedro also led the league in ERA and strikeouts making him the easy unanimous Cy Young. Mike Mussina finished a distant second and Mariano Rivera came in third.

Roger Clemens (1998)
Everybody remembers Yankees Roger Clemens and Red Sox Roger Clemens but we sometimes tend to forget his years with the Blue Jays. In 1998 Roger Clemens had a 2.65 ERA, a 20 - 6 win and 271 strikeouts.

Roger Clemens (1986)
Roger Clemens has had a good, long career. If you need proof how about the fact that Roger Clemens was the unanimous Cy Young winner twice, twelve years apart. The second place winner was Teddy Higuera, followed by Mike Witt and Dave Righetti.

Takeaways
  • There have been eight pitchers voted the unanimous winner of the Cy Young.
  • Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens have won two Cy Youngs unanimously.
  • Roger Clemens won his two unanimous Cy Youngs twelve years apart.
