Recently I spoke of a treatment for the relief of strained breathing that asthma sufferers are forced to endure. I told you of the strange, yet seemingly functional, transference of asthma from the human to the Chihuahua. When we are forced to live with physical discomfort, whether it be severe or a simple muscle ache, we look for relief any way we can get it. If you are struggling to breathe, you panic and reach out for anything to help you get a deep and cleansing breath. As a former lifeguard (many, many years ago), I remember the most important rule to saving a drowning victim is to avoid letting him take you down with him. Instinct, when grasping for a breath of air while panicking as you go under the water, is to grab anything you can to pull yourself up. When a lifeguard comes to save you from a terrifying fate, they must keep in mind that you will unintentionally grab for them and thus cause them to be a victim as well. An asthma sufferer is doing the same thing as they search for a deep breath. They will grab for anything to help them breathe.

Any cause for relief is more than welcome. When a person adopts an animal that is far from their choice of pets because they heard once or twice that the animal may relieve their suffering, then they are reaching for anything to save them from torture. They will adopt the pet and pray the bizarre rumor is true. Adopting a Chihuahua is not the only unusual suggestion for relief of asthma symptoms.

Just recently I heard about a new rage for those suffering from the difficult breathing disorder. This treatment is as questionable as the "Chihuahua transfer treatment", but having my own testimonial to the power of the pet, I would not be able to ignore the possibility that it may actually work to relieve the strain of asthma.

You could get some good stories out of the effort, even if it doesn't work.
