The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. In fact it is just 60 miles from the Lancashire coastline.

The one major factor that makes the Isle of Man different from anywhere else in the British Isles is the fact that it is a self-governing Kingdom. It is a Crown dependency that belongs neither to the United Kingdom or the European Union. This small island has its own Government (called Tynwald) laws, traditions, culture, cuisine and postage stamps.

Added to all that the Isle of Man is a great holiday destination with fun and attractions for the whole family.

The capital of the Isle of Man is the thriving east coast town and port of Douglas. Douglas has been the capital and main tourist center since 1869. Amongst its many attractions Douglas is the home of the Douglas Horse Trams which are now the only ones in existence.

The Isle of Man offers a 10,000 year history so there is much to discover. For the history buffs I would suggest visiting places such as; The House of Manhatten, the islands' Treasure House, The Grove Rural Life Museum, Castle Rushen, The Old Grammar School, Rushen Abbey, Cregneash Village Folk Museum, Peel Castle, The National Museum, The Laxey Wheel, The Old House of Keys and Calf Sound.

But beware of this island's history, there is much folklore and superstition woven into the fabric of everyday life. One tale tells that this island was forged by a giant's hand in a fit of temper and then hidden from envious eyes by a sea god who shrouded it in mist. And you may just encounter the ghostly Black Dog of Peel castle, the wicked sorcerers of Witches Hill at St John's or Gef, the talking mongoose who haunted a lonely mountain farmhouse. And only the brave cross the Fairy bridge near Stanton Station without saying 'hello' to the little people.

The isle of Man offers a wide range of outdoor activities ranging from Golf, fishing, flat green and crown green bowling, sailing, watersports, diving, cycling, mountain biking, quad biking, pony trekking and road racing events such as the T.T..
