How to Teach Math Concepts to Your Preschooler?

Most parents are eager to teach their your preschooler to help encourage learning and to give them a head start in school. But when it comes to teaching math concepts many parents just do not know where to begin. There are several activities that you can do with your child at home to get them started. One way is to bake some sweet treats. you might be thinking what does that have to do with math concepts. Well what you will be doing is linking baking with the math. First decide what you want to bake. Your options are either muffins or cookies, for this project. You will need to bake at least twelve of either the cookies or the muffins. Once you have finished baking them and they are cooled you can then divide them up in to groups. For group options you can make one group of two groups of five and one group of two. Use your own imagination. You can then have your child figure out which group has more and which group has less. 

Once your child has mastered that task you can then move on to decorating your cookies or muffins. You will want to make sure that you keep them in their separate groups. Decorate each group differently. Then mix them up and have your child pick out how many match and how many do not. This is just one of the many ways that you can teach math concepts within your own home. What work's best is combining something that your child loves to do, such as baking, and turning that into a math project. Here is a list of skills that your preschooler will need to master prior to starting kindergarten. He or she will need to be able to identify sets, so matching games would work best for this.
