Food Review: McDonald's McSkillet Burrito with Sausage

As I stopped by my local McDonald's, I saw an advertisement for a new McSkillet Burrito with Sausage. I decided to have a sneak peek at tasting this breakfast item.

The Packaging

The burrito is wrapped in a special thermal paper wrap, which seems to hold all of it in one piece very well. Although I do expect some type of box in the future if steak or chicken is
 used.

The Ingredients

The McSkillet burrito has a flour tortilla, two different cheeses (a pasteurized American cheese slice, shredded cheddar Jack cheese), sausage, potatoes, a vegetable blend, salsa roja and egg. The ingredient list contains wheat, egg, soy lecithin and milk for those with allergies. The potato blend also includes onion and green and red peppers. The salsa has tomatoes, onion, jalapeno and Anaheim pepper puree.

The Burrito Build

The burrito starts with a flour tortilla, the slice of American cheese cut in half, layered lengthwise on the shell. The sausage patty is cut in half, and layered over the cheese. A scoop of the potato blend, along with the vegetables are heaped onto the sausage. The shredded cheddar Jack cheese is smothered over the vegetables, with the salsa roja topping it off. The tortilla is then rolled like a burrito, but much larger. Miraculously, the warm tortilla holds the whole mixture in without breaking the shell.

The Taste

The McSkillet tastes really good-what combination that includes sausage, potatoes and cheese wouldn't? It tastes like a homemade breakfast, which is what the mega fast food chain was planning on.

The Nutritional Content

The McSkillet burrito with sausage sounds very unhealthy-and it is. Weighing in at 8.4 ounces, it contains 610 calories, 330 from fat. The fat count is 36 gram, a whopping 56% of your daily value. Saturated fat is at 14 grams, 69% of your daily value, and there is a half gram of trans fat. The cholesterol count is awful, containing 137% of your daily value.

I would toss the sausage and make it worth my while - ask for extra salsa.

I was in Virginia for a few months on business and they had chicken mcskillet burritos. They were so much better, however when I came home to Chicago the McDonalds employees thought i was insane, they had never heard of it. Apparently only the sausage ones are served here. And I'm having trouble finding anything on the internet about the existence of these chicken wrapped slices of breakfast heaven.

The review is okay. But next time, don't review the wrapper.
