While traditional academic colleges represent a majority of the universities in the United States, a forgotten percentage of higher education can also be found in art schools and colleges around the country. However, while a variety of information exists for finding and evaluating the college if your choice, finding information regarding what to look for in art school can be much more difficult indeed. However, if we really take the time to think about it, evaluating whether or not a selected art school is right for a particular student does not have to be a challenge. In fact, many of the standard rules for choice and consideration apply, although there a few twists that students and parents alike should consider before committing.

One of the most common, and certainly most damaging myths that circulate about art schools is the idea that any art school is the same as any other one. While this may indeed represent the popular view, it is certainly not the case. Like any other college, art schools specialize in different categories. It is recommended that any interested student do a thorough search and contact a variety of teachers at the selected school in order to determine if the school offers the education that they would like to receive. Remember to check carefully with faculty and do not be afraid to have lunch with a faculty member or talk to students to see what they are interested in and what the school specializes in.
