A little more the 7 months ago I was in your shoes. Single and looking and absolutely clueless when it came to meeting new people or where to meet them. Being a mom solely responsible for a toddler and having a full time career, free time and opportunities to meet someone new are scarce. Online dating seemed to be the best outlet for me. I looked to www.craigslist.org, a free online classified site, for help. I bit the bullet, and typed up a detailed personal ad including a picture. In the first few days I had well over 35 responses to my personal ad. Out of the 35, 1 asked me to marry him in return for free rent, 2 told me that they were married but their wife didn't mind. These 3 ended up with thanks but no thanks responses from me. More importantly, I ended up talking to 7 other really nice guys on the phone, 4 of those resulting into some very enjoyable first dates. One particular first date having gone so well, that I felt it necessary to cancel a second date and another first date with other guys that I had scheduled for later in the week. That special someone and I are still together. I consider myself quite lucky and my boyfriend of almost 7 months still finds it amusing that we found love at www.craigslist.org.
I have heard that the results of that one personal ad I posted is not typical. That many people do not succeed or even have nearly the responses that I did. I can understand why. Before posting my personal ad I wanted to know how others wrote their own personal ads. I read some written by men and women and while some were enjoyable, I felt most just didn't say enough about themselves. Many times I would read a personal and think, why did you say that? Why not leave that part out and put something different about yourself. I think there are some things that are good to include and some things that just should never be included when one writes a personal ad with the ultimate goal of finding new love. I've listed below some ssuggestions to writing a personal that will get responses.
