We all have a neighbor or two who litters their lawn with Christmas blow ups and reindeer and has enough lights on their house to give Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation a run for his money. That's all well and good until January second, but neglecting to remove and store the Christmas decorations after the holidays is tacky and a little irritating to look at. Whether it's laziness, lack of time or just a desire to make the Christmas season last a little bit longer, it's a problem common in most neighborhoods. We all love decorating our homes and property for Christmas, but without a doubt Santa and his reindeer should be removed at the very latest the day after New Years. There are some Christmas decorations that can be left in place until the last of Winter winds blow that do not sacrifice good taste and also make your home a cozy place to be.

Snowmen. Snowmen are whimsical decorations that remind us of the fun of the winter season. They evoke thoughts of sledding, snowball fights and a warm fire roaring inside while Mother Nature blankets the earth with fresh snow. Snowman decorations come in all sizes and styles. You can place a large snowman cozily dressed for winter inside your front door as well as snowman figurines on your mantel and windowsill to bring some cheer into your home during the winter months. A tasteful snowman that lights up can be left outside after Christmas and plugged in every evening to welcome winter visitors.

Candles In The Windows. Traditionally, lit candles were placed in windows to welcome weary travelers who needed a safe and welcoming place to stay for the night. Why not continue the tradition all during the winter and leave your electric candles in the windows? Not only will they make your home a little lighter during the dark months of winter, they will also be a lovely welcoming for your guests stopping by for a cup of hot cocoa or tea during the winter.

Great suggestions! I have "Christmas" decorations that stay in my house all year, but don't stand out horribly as such. For instance, I collect angels, and they are everywhere. I have decorated my house in the Victorian style, and have minature trees with ribbons and white lights in a couple of places. I have a couple of wreaths that stay up year round, and look perfectly appropriate in a Victorian setting. I have red roses and white lights on my mantle that stay all year as well. It's funny, when Christmas DOES come around, it appears that I have done a lot more decorating than I have, as these things suddenly are noticed more. :) Very unique article-good work!

My mom always does more "winter" decorating than Christmas with tons of snowmen for that very fact of leaving it up longer. Excellent ideas!

I just put red candles up on a long high window sill today LOL I have an Aunt that I swear goes at least 4 moths after Christmas to BEGIN taking things down - she says she just love Christmas too much to take them down :-) Not me, we have a huge New Years party so many of the decorations need to be down before that. Fun article!

Neat ideas-now if we can just get all those neighbors who leave their Christmas decorations up until spring-to read this article and at least decorate with these suggestions.

Well done. We once had a evergreen wreath that a bird decided to build her nest in so of course we left it until late spring. I am subscribing to you as well. Thanks!

I completely agree... these are all great to leave up all winter long. I especially love snowflakes. I just bought some today at the largest Christmas store in the world in Frankenmuth Michigan. I'm putting them up tomorrow. Great article!

Great article with wonderful ideas! I can see how it would be acceptable to keep some of these up longer.
