The Mega Man series has been around since video games first launched. It's one of the classic names in gaming right up there with Mario and Sonic. The series itself has seen countless versions (the original series, the X series, the legends series, the Z series and now the ZX series) but overall has maintained the same feel throughout it's 20 year run.

The latest installment in the long lasting series is Mega Man ZX. If you've played any Mega Man game in the past twenty years you probably have a fairly good idea of what this ones going to be like, but if you haven't let me brake it down for you.

1. You play as a robot.
2. You run back and forth.
3. You shot stuff
4. You kill robots whose name ends with man (Fireman, Iceman, Silly-moustacheman, etc. etc.)

If you're still reading, you probably want me to review the game in further detail.

GRAPHICS: A

The graphics are nice. They're crisp and clean. You can tell what's going on. In all honesty you really don't expect fancy graphics in a Mega Man game. You wanna be able to tell who you are (the anime robot) and tell who you have to shoot (anything moving that isn't you). The game does a good job of delivering here. There isn't any slow down, and you can tell your little robot from the bad little robots.

MUSIC AND SOUND: B

The games music isn't annoying but it isn't memorable. 20 years after playing Mega Man 2 I can still remember the opening theme song and a hum it no problem. Fifteen minutes after playing Mega Man ZX Advent I can't remember a single melody from the game. I can't even try to improvise and pretend to hum a song from the game.

The sound effect are good, but then again you'd have to try pretty hard to mess up on shooting noises and jumping noises.

STORY: C

Who the heck plays a Mega Man game for it's story? Even though they tried to make a story, it's still pretty much the same as the old Mega Man game stories (select Robot Master and kill them). What you don't like that explanation? Fine, I'll go into detail:

You can choose to play as either a boy or a girl. The boy starts off in a laboratory not knowing who he is and the girl is some sort of air pirate. That's pretty much the only difference between their stories.

Takeaways
  • Mega Man
  • Nintendo DS
