On Nov. 20, 2007, the Queen of England and her husband, Prince Phillip, celebrated their 60th (Diamond) wedding anniversary.

Quite a remarkable feat in this day and age of divorces. In fact 3 out of the couples 4 children have been through divorces .

I don't think for one moment that the Royal marriage has been a complete bed of roses but they pushed through and have made it. Maybe at times divorce would have been an easy option, it is no secret that Prince Phillip is not the easiest man on this earth.

Despite everything, on the Nov. 19, 2007, this couple celebrated the great milestone of 60 years together by attending a special Thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey, London. This is the same venue where , in 1947, a young couple committed themselves to each, for better or worse. It wouldn't be too long before this young naval couple would become the Queen of England and The Duke of Edinburgh. This is where the transition really began with prince Phillip having to give up his Naval career and having to walk several paces behind his wife. This is where the work really began.

Approximately 2,000 people gathered together at Westminster Abbey to rejoice with the Queen and Prince Phillip. Among the many guests: Gordon Brown, UK's Prime Minister and Baroness Thatcher, a former UK Prime Minister.

30 members of the Royal family were at the gathering, including The Prince of Wales and his wife The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Prince Harry.

The young future King, Prince William, gave a reading in honor of his grandparents and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will bless the Queen and the Duke. The poet Laureate was specially commissioned to write a poem, which was read by the actress Dame Judi Dench.

A diamond-themed party was planned at the Ritz but will not take place for another 5 months. The reason being that, as usual putting duty first, Her Majesty will be in Malta on the actual day of her anniversary and then will proceed on for a State visit to Uganda. Not bad for an 81-year-old granny.
