Learning about yourself in terms of attributes to pin to your character is not learning about yourself but piling limitations to who you are supposed to be that romantically fits right in your head. In fact, it promotes the theme of self-image and not the 'self'. Self-image is the picture of who you deliberately project yourself to be. A projection for others and to satisfy your ego 'self'. This is unenlightened because it does not seek truth but is fine with a fake self, which means the foundation to everything is pretentious and void thus growth cannot be justifiably formed. Besides the theme of spiritual awakening, rationally, this self-image is also not a means to an end because it is a wall put up to mask the question of self-identity with an answer that your subconscious innately know is false. Of course this leads to all the flaws of the ego - insecurity, anger, jealousy etc. All walls have to be broken free from to attain growth and self-awareness. You can't understand yourself when you have purposefully build up a blockage to gaining full possession of who you are.
When you have broken down all walls and find no more need to qualify and quantify yourself with traits, knowing that they only demean who you really are, that is when you will soon receive the true dawning of self-awareness. Then you will understand what I mean about the boundlessness of self. You will require no characteristic being attached to who you are to understand who you are. You will require no material attachments to justify the self that you are. And you will be simply that which you have hidden away, a pure, beautiful energy, inspired at every moment to grow, grow and grow.
Pure is a state where you approach everything with the basis stripped of ingrained thoughts and instincts coming usually from societal drumming. Sometimes we feel that just because so many people believe a certain thing, it is surely right. And yes, we cannot immediately say it is 'wrong' either, but to academically address any theory, we have to strip ourselves of what we have been conditioned to think and become by society.
