Scanners have allowed us to do some pretty cool things. One of the best things is that a scanner can allow us to scan our documents onto the computer. These documents will then be presented to us in PDF format. The format makes it easy for us to look at and transfer data over the world wide web. Librarians have used the technology to scan book collections onto the Internet. This can be a long and tiring process. Atiz has been working on technology to make copying a book to PDF that much easier.

The past couple of years have seen Atiz hard at work creating the BookSnap. A quick look at the BookSnap makes you wonder what it is you are supposed to do with the machine. Once you watch it in action, you notice that you have a machine that will allow you to "rip" (copy) your books into a PDF format. The company states that they are aiming their product at the individual consumers out there, but much of their business will also come from larger companies and libraries from around the wolrd.

Priced at $1595, this is an expensive little helped. The price is high because of the technology required to create the device. Basically, you have two digital cameras that are responsible for taking exact images of each page of text. Your first step will be to place the book into the specially made V-shaped cradle. The cradle allows for the book to be presented open and as even as possible. One great benefit of the V-shaped cradle is that it can also auto adjust your book placement to make sure that the page remains flat and even.

Each pictured captured will be transfered via connection to your computer. Your computer will then recognize the connection and launch your already installed BookSnap software. The software will then save the page and continue saving each page while keeping the book in exact order. One flaw to the machine is that you must turn every page yourself. This makes it so that the person doing the scanning has to do just as much as before (with the scanner).
