A healthy heart is essential to a long and fulfilled life. We are bombarded daily with tips on how to have a healthy heart, and sometimes all the advice is overwhelming. I have some simple advice that will help you maintain a healthy heart. The first step to a healthy heart is to see your doctor. It is very important to get regular medical checkups to help avoid future health problems. If you have symptoms that you think are heart related you need to see your doctor right away.

The second step is no smoking. It's important to avoid smoking and second hand smoke. If you do smoke this will greatly increase your chances of a heart attack or heart failure. When you do quit smoking it reduces your cardiovascular risk as well as the risk of lung disease and Cancer. The third step is to maintain a healthy weight. If a person is obese this will increase your risk of heart attack, heart failure and even diabetes. It is best to put together a healthy diet and exercise program to better help you maintain a normal, healthy weight.

The fourth step is a daily moderate exercise program. I f you exercise just 30 minutes per day this will be very beneficial to your health and your heart. A moderate exercise program is where there is an increased level of exertion but can still carry on a conversation. The best form of exercise is walking. When you walk you don't need special equipment or even a gym membership. If you are having trouble with commitment, find a walking partner,so you will be more committed to walking. The fifth step is to maintain a healthy cholesterol level. The first thing you need to do is to have your cholesterol levels checked. If you do have a high cholesterol level, this can lead to coronary artery disease. It is best to have your cholesterol level checked at least once a year.

The last thing to do is to maintain a normal blood pressure. It's very important to get your blood pressure checked on a regular basis. There are many patients who have hypertension that are not aware that they have this condition. There are a variety of treatments that are available to patients with high blood pressure that are very effective.
